Visual impairment is a low incidence condition and, given the rural nature of Missouri, providing sufficient resources to educators serving students who are visually impaired can be challenging. The staff of the Outreach Services Division of Missouri School for the Blind is well aware of the need for resources to support educators providing services to these students. The Resource Guide contains a variety of resources, including information on those topics that the Outreach Services Division staff are asked about most frequently. This guide is not intended to replace the services of a teacher certified in the education of students who are visually impaired or the services of a certified orientation and mobility (COMS) instructor. This guide is just a starting point for letting educators know that there are resources available to support them in their efforts to provide quality services to Missouri’s students who are visually impaired. Resources noted in this guide are not intended to be all-inclusive nor an endorsement of any products or services noted over others that are available.
We hope that you find the Resource Guide useful. If you share or copy information from the guide, you may wish to be sure that you have most current information by contacting T. J. Hunt, Vision Supervisor, 314-776-4320, extension 252, or thunt@msb.k12.mo.us or Jennie Mascheck, Vision Supervisor, 314-776-4320, extension 253 or jmascheck@msb.k12.mo.us. Please use the information in context and identify the Resource Guide and the Missouri School for the Blind as the source of your information. Best wishes in your efforts on behalf of Missouri’s students with visual impairment.
